Tanjiro Kamado is a fictional character and the main protagonist in Koyoharu Gotouge from the manga demon Slayer: Kimetsu not Yaiba . Tanjiro is a teenager on a quest to restore the humanity of his sister, Nezuko , who was turned into a demon after her family was murdered by Muzan Kibutsuji following an attack that resulted in the death of her other relatives. After an encounter with Giyu Tomioka, a demon killer, Tanjiro is recruited by Giyu to also become a demon killer to help his sister become human again and avenge her family.
In addition to ufotable demon Slayer: Kimetsu not Yaiba anime adaptation, Tanjiro also appeared in a light novel that acts as a prequel to the manga. Gotouge created Tanjiro following a suggestion from their publisher to have a brilliant main character who would stand out in his dark story. His design was influenced by Himura Kenshin from Nobuhiro Watsuki’s manga, Rurouni Kenshin, when determining what the character should look like. In the anime series, Tanjiro is spoken by Natsuki Hanae in Japanese and Zach Aguilar in English. The character has been well received by manga and anime critics due to his caring nature and relationship with his sister while becoming a powerful fighter. This led the protagonist to win several awards based on his fame with Hanae’s performance, as he also received one.
